CDC | Strategy for Global Response to COVID-19 (2020–2023) + Global Results & Funding Fact Sheets
I supported the design and production of CDC’s Strategy for Global Response to COVID-19 (2020–2023)—a publication that communicates how CDC’s global teams aligned priorities, principles, and objectives to help mitigate the pandemic and strengthen readiness for future health threats. The work required translating policy-forward, text-heavy content into a clear, navigable document with strong hierarchy, consistent typographic structure, and a layout system designed for both digital distribution and print.
In addition to the strategy document, I also contributed to supporting communication materials that highlight CDC’s global response activities and funding at a glance. These companion pages focus on quick comprehension through structured sections, icon-supported callouts, and data visualization—helping stakeholders understand where efforts were concentrated and how resources supported priority technical areas.
- Client: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) | Global Health / COVID-19 Response Communications
- Role: Publication Design, Layout System, Data Visualization Support, Production & 508-Ready Formatting (as applicable)
- Tools: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop (as needed for production)
- Deliverable: Multi-page strategy publication, annex pages, web/print-ready PDFs, fact sheets with charts and “at-a-glance” summaries
This work was built for audiences who need to absorb information quickly—public health leaders, partner agencies, ministries of health, and stakeholders supporting global response efforts. The design approach emphasized:
- Fast scanning (clear headers, short sections, predictable structure).
- Credibility and clarity suitable for government publication standards.
- Cross-format use for print, PDF distribution, and accessible reading experiences.
To keep long-form content readable and consistent across pages, I applied a modular publication system:
- A clean cover and header framework that establishes the document identity immediately.
- Strong section hierarchy (“Key Principles,” “Strategic Objectives,” “Annex: Key Activities”) to reduce cognitive load.
- Consistent spacing, typography, and bullet structures for dense policy/program content.
- Color and graphic accents used intentionally to guide attention without overwhelming the text.
The strategy content includes high-detail objectives and activity lists. My focus was on making complex information feel structured and approachable:
- Clear numbering patterns so sections can be referenced and shared.
- Well-defined content blocks that separate narrative context from objective lists.
- Annex layouts designed for readability even when the content is highly granular.
The supporting materials were designed to communicate impact and resource allocation through faster “executive scan” formatting:
- At-a-glance layouts that summarize key global response points in short, digestible sections.
- Charts and funding visuals to support quick understanding of priority technical areas and time-based funding views.
- Strong alignment and labeling standards so the data presentation remains accurate, legible, and consistent with CDC design expectations.
This set of materials supports CDC’s need to communicate global strategy and resource focus with clarity and consistency:
- A scalable, repeatable layout system for long-form strategy documentation.
- A clean structure that supports both deep reading and fast reference use.
- Companion summaries that make complex response efforts easier to understand across stakeholder groups.
